10 Ways To Look Younger Now
Friday, August 6, 2010
Aging is a natural process, but there are easy ways to slow Mother Nature. Following are tips that have helped me look younger, instantly.
1. Shape your brows. Groomed eyebrow can literally change the entire look of your face. Better cosmetic surgeons recommend this; the results of brow re-shaping make their surgeries look even better.
It is worth the expense to have your brows shaped by a professional. They know how to shape a brow that is most flattering to your particular features, including the proper color and thickness. You will emerge instantly younger-looking.
If that is not possible, you need to find a visual aid that helps you learn how to groom. Department stores have brow kits for the do-it-yourselfer. Usually the kit has templates for the shape you desire; the important thing is to maintain your natural arch.
Maintaining your natural arch means you choose a template that matches the arch you already have; do not select a straight brow template if your arch has a peak.
Use a brow pencil or brush to fill in sparse areas. It is better to use a color that is slightly lighter than your brow color opposed to going darker; it looks more natural.
The most important tip: Do NOT overpluck! Paper-thin brows are aging.
2. Avoid shimmer eyeshadow; creases and lines really stand out with reflective shadow. Stick with matte shadows that are not in neon bright colors. Generally blue eyes pop with coppery colors, brown eyes look great with violet; usually eyes have variations of hazels, greens and yellow; eye shadow is a fun way to experiment as long as it is not applied heavily.
3. Another sign of youth is thick eyelashes; it is a good idea to curl them first. A less-harsh brown mascara may look better than black. Avoid clumped or spiked lashes. Eyelash primers, applied before mascara, help it to adhere to the lash and add instant volume.
4. Avoid eyeliner and mascara on lower lids; on most older women it is aging.
5. With foundation, less is more. Mineral makeup is a great alternative and can give good coverage with a light touch. Mineral makeup has sunscreen as well, another plus.
6. Place concealer at inner corners of eyes and around nostrils, common shadow creators.
7. Instant eye-brightener: pink pencil liner at inner corners of eyes, on inner lower lids, at top lip line (blend carefully), and a touch at the corners of the mouth.
8. Place blush a little higher on the cheek; with lighter skin, a pink blush is youthful looking and reflects well when placed closer to the eyes.
9. Don't choose a harsh hair color...platinum blond, brassy red, or charcoal black. By the way, there is no rule that says hair has to be cut short at a certain age; often, the condition of your hair will let you know, or you will find other hairstyles more flattering.
The point is, don't hang onto the same hairstyle for far too long. If you are wearing different clothes than you did ten years ago, re-think your hair as well.
10. Take care of yourself, show you care about yourself, then throw your head back and laugh...there are a lot of us aging right along with you!
